The competition is organized jointly by the Department of Mathematics & Statistics of the University of New Brunswick and the Faculty of Science and the School of Engineering of l'Université de Moncton with the sponsorship of the New Brunswick Department of Education.
Students from across the province come to the both the Fredericton and Saint John campuses of UNB and the Moncton, Edmundston and Shippagan campuses of U de Moncton to write a multiple choice competiton paper during the morning, in either French or English. With computer grading we are able to present prizes to provincial and district winners in the afternoon. While students await results, universities conduct tours and demonstrations at various university facilities.
The competition provides a valuable opportunity for interaction between universities and schools. Teachers meet with competition coordinators while their students are busy solving problems. Teachers and students enjoy the afternoon tours and demonstrations. The competition rewards students for academic excellence.
The competition is sponsored by several agencies that see promotion of mathematics as a key component of success in many fields of endeavour.
